My project focuses on the development of advanced imaging flow cytometry platforms for the detection and characterization of rare biomarkers in liquid biopsy with a particular emphasis on circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and extracellular vesicles (EVs). For the CTC project, I use inertial microfluidics and viscoelastic flow to isolate CTCs directly from whole blood and enable their real-time detection. In parallel, I study EVs, focusing on differences in concentration and content between healthy individuals and glioblastoma patients, as glioblastoma is often linked to increased EV release and tumor-specific cargo with non-invasive diagnostic potential.
